Words are Magic or magical, or how else would you explain what happened in Genesis chapter 1. I’ve had my own fair share of epiphany towards this realization and I make bold to claim that I am a magician.
Words are Magic and I am a magician.
Countless times I have wondered at how my hands moving across a notebook – or even a keyboard – could produce something in such a cause-and-effect manner. How a thought forms, matures into an idea that comes alive as soon as my pen kisses the notebook or my finger hits the keypads, and from there comes meanings, emotions, and sensations. My mind does not see this as an ordinary event.
When I write, I am not merely spelling words. Like magicians casting spells, it is extraordinary. Words dance on the pages, pictures form in your head and light illuminates your mind. Just like magic!
The above statement may sound ridiculous. Maybe, but only if you doubt what words can do, or the ability of the speaker or writer. Words are extremely powerful tools. They can make you fall in love, make you optimistic, make you sentimental, worsen your mood, uplift your spirit.
Words or magic are neither supported by logic but justified by the emotions they guarantee us.
Words just like magic thrive on our beliefs.
The power of a word is a result of our emotional response when we hear, read or speak them. Our emotions fuel our interpretation, acceptance, understanding, and expression. Words exist as an integral part of our everyday life only as long as we use them as the primary tool for communication. Once it is abandoned, they die.
The nature of words as almost a kind of magical spell is rooted in their etymology. In the Indo-European tradition, words were always viewed as possessing dangerous magic. This is further approved among religious people who are conscious of their words, in fear that they may incur negative vibes or spirits to themselves. Even ‘curse’ words are frowned at – a belief that the use of such words could bring curses on the speaker or hearer.
Like I said earlier, words are extremely powerful tools capable of destroying as well as building. As a writer, I make bold to claim that I am a god; a magician.
The world is fruitful evidence of casted spell through the spoken word of God.
Likewise, as writers, the words we wield can directly affect societal and psychological evolution. We can change, influence people’s way of life as well as their habits, and their perceptions about themselves, others, and the world.
A word spoken in its simplest form can mean a whole lot, to the receiver and also to the speaker or writer as it may. Every time a word is seen or heard, sparks of imagination ignite in the brain and these imaginations explode with endless possibilities. The same is true for others and anyone with an understanding of this force can create and recreate such power in everyone they meet, to inspire, create, or form a connection. Just Like a magical spell!
With this reality, writers are people equipped with the will and craft to be a changer, influencer. They can decide the fate of the world or even their world with a word – either the right one or the wrong one. However, this supremacy rests not only on writers but also on non-writers. Since the power of words is only validated by the reactions of our emotions, anyone who can appeal to our sentiments definitely can evoke such – writers or non-writers.
Everyone can hack the brain and create thoughts, feelings, emotions, imagery in people’s minds through storytelling.
Stories reveal our identity, preserve our culture and communicate our values.
Anybody and everybody can tell a story.
Whether you own a brand, sell a product or offer a service, the amount of trust, loyalty, patronage, commitment, and support you shall earn will forever be a direct exchange of how original you are to your story. The magic you will create in the minds of people, either customers or prospects, also depends on how persuasive, engaging and relatable the words from your brand resonate with them.
So, tell your story, believe in your own magic, and create your own world with the words from your mind, body, and soul.
To do that, you'd need to answer a few questions like:
Who are you?
What words best describe your type of person
What do people say about your personality
What is your unique experience or style
The answers you provide to these will help you create a story which whenever you tell to people hypnotizes them as though it were magic. You will become a magician, just by the use of the right words.
What is your story?
